"Art of Memory: Reflection on Women in Totalitarianism"

Promote standards democratic through art

In 2023, with the support of AMSHC and Municipality of Tirana, we have implemented the project “Art of Memory: Reflection on Women in Totalitarianism”.

This project was maintained with the aim of promoting the culture of memory historical and promote standards democratic through art, and more specifically through a coordination of art dramatic, musical and choreography, as well a tribute to the women victims of totalitarianism.

Within this project the theater show “Luba” was held with script by the well-known writer Ylljet Alickaj. This show deals with the ordeal of the sufferings of the political prisoner and his family members during the regime communist in Albania.

"Tirana Music Promenade"

Revitalization of the squares and city parks

In 2022, as we are selected one from winners of the call to within Tirana European Youth Capital, we have implemented the project “Tirana Music Promenade”.

The purpose of the project was the revitalization of the squares and city parks and the activation of the young generation as the main protagonists’ social activities in the city.

The main idea was to organize a journey concert throughout the city with about 5 stations in places extraordinary and new. Each station served as a “stage” for one small lineup of musicians/performers (maximum 1-5) whatever enabled the public of the capital to discover music chosen by the best tradition of the past (classicism, romanticism, etc.) until current music, popular tunes and extraordinary sounds.

"Donate Music"

Create opportunities for public school students

Since 2021, the ARTE Foundation has launched the “Donate Music” project, which is in process. The purpose of this project is to create opportunities for public school students, of all levels, to have an active approach with the piano instrument and, therefore, with music.

This is because the possibilities of the non-artistic, pre-university education system in Albania is very limited and schools do not have musical instruments such as piano etc.

In this way, especially for financially impossible strata, inequalities are created which, in the future, may deprive talents to undertake an artistic career. Thanks to this project, a donation of a piano was secured from OTP Bank, while further work is being done to secure other pianos.

"Tirona K`non"

Celebration of 100th anniversary of Tirana as the capital of Albania

In 2020, despite the suspension of cultural activities in Albania, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ARTE Foundation managed to organize a very important project entitled “Tirona K’non”.

This project was organized within the celebration of 100th anniversary of Tirana as the capital of Albania. Tirana as the capital of the country has become, in our opinion, like all capitals in the whole world, a multi-cultural city, which has weakened its autochthonous heritage.

To protect and promote the traditional music of the city of Tirana, we proposed the “Tirona K’non” project. The project consisted in the realization of an LP and CD with traditional music of Tirana, collected and performed by the bearers themselves.

In order to provide a professional product, ARTE contracted a BBC producer and engineer, which provided us with, in our view, one of the best musical products ever made in Albania. Currently this product is being promoted in the international electronic media.

Giving the opportunity to express themselves to vulnerable groups

In 2018-2019, the ARTE Foundation is the winner of the RELOAD project, financed by UNDP and Shkodër Municipality. The project envisioned raising awareness and appealing against violence against children and women.

The purpose of this project was materialized by giving the opportunity to express themselves to vulnerable groups (children, young people and abused women) who, through diversified activities according to specifics, best promoted the necessary enterprise that the community must witness against violence.

“Art Against Violence” had as its protagonists the children of vulnerable groups between the ages of 5 and 15 (with equal gender representation), the young people of the city of Shkodra and the abused women. During the nine months of project implementation, 4 training cycles were carried out, 2 of which for children divided into groups depending on the type of training, in music and visual arts. Trainings were also held for young people and abused women (social theater).

The selection of protagonists ensured inclusiveness of age groups (children, youth and women), gender equality (among children and youth) and increased sensitivity towards vulnerable groups (violated women as well as Roma and Egyptian minorities). “Art Against Violence” treats its protagonists in a very active way, stimulating your artistic habits. Internationally proven methods, such as “Music in Society” and “Social Theatre” guaranteed the full realization of the project’s goal.

Within the framework of the ReLOaD call, the project entitled “Art against violence” carried out a series of activities with the aim of informing, supporting and sensitizing young people and vulnerable groups. Specifically, the project had two categories of social groups in focus of its activities: a) children of Roma and Egyptian communities b) abused women and young people of the city of Shkodra. Within this project, a significant number of artistic interpretive activities were held, such as 6 concerts, 4 theater performances, 4 murals positioned in different places in the city of Shkodra, etc.
