On September 5, 2025, the ARTE Foundation presented a landmark open-air gala concert with world-renowned tenor Saimir Pirgu in Shiroka, Shkodra, an event that brought together the excellence of Albania’s symphonic tradition and the artistry of one of the most celebrated lyrical voices of our time. Held in the city’s central square overlooking the lake, the concert gathered a large and diverse audience, marking one of the most significant cultural evenings of the year in Albania. Designed in close collaboration with Maestro Pirgu and conductor Elda Laro, the program offered a refined journey through the international operatic repertoire and Western sacred music, while giving special prominence to the treasures of Albanian musical heritage. Arias by Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Massenet, Puccini, Rossini and classics such as Ave Maria, Panis Angelicus, and ’O sole mio were performed alongside beloved Albanian works including Rexho Mulliqi’s Baresha, Limos Dizdari’s Fjalët e qiririt, Simon Gjoni’s Luleborë, and Feim Ibrahimi’s emblematic Rrjedh në këngë e ligjërime. The performance culminated with Puccini’s iconic Nessun dorma, receiving a standing ovation. The concert featured the Shkodra Symphony Orchestra, prepared through an extensive 10-day rehearsal process, and included a special appearance by the Children’s Choir of the “Kujtim Alija” Cultural Center, whose participation added freshness and emotional depth to the evening. Directed on stage by well-known actress Ema Ndoja, the event also incorporated poetry by Martin Camaj, creating a multidimensional artistic experience that transcended the format of a traditional classical concert. Organized under the artistic direction and logistical management of the ARTE Foundation, with the support of the Municipality of Shkodra and the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, the production achieved high professional standards in scenography, sound design, and stage management. The concert received exceptional public reception and wide national media coverage, highlighting its cultural impact and reaffirming Shkodra’s historic bond with classical music and the lyrical arts.
